LA Fitness Altercation Leads to Slashing, Shot Being Fired
A man was taken into custody after he slashed a teenager and attempted shooting at him during an altercation inside the LA Fitness on Deer Park Avenue in North Babylon, New York late Tuesday night.
Multiple 911 calls reported an active shooter inside the LA Fitness gym located at 1230 Deer Park Ave, North Babylon, NY 11703 just before 8 PM on Tuesday night. The suspect, identified as Noah Haynes, 18, of Wyandanch, slashed the victim with a metal object and pointed a gun at him, according to Suffolk County Police.
The victim and the would-be shooter were involved in the altercation at around 7:15 PM when staff members of the gym asked them to leave. Both men then engaged in a physical altercation in the parking lot. Haynes left the parking lot in a vehicle and returned approximately 30 minutes later to confront the 17-year old once more. The victim began yelling to other members in the gym that Haynes had a gun.
Three gym members then came to the victim’s defense and restrained Haynes until police arrived. During the struggle, one shot was fired by Haynes, which did not result in any injuries.
Suffolk County Police Officers swiftly took Haynes into custody at 7:55 PM. The 17-year old victim was transported to a local area hospital for minor injuries and was released.
The Suffolk County Police 1st Squad Detectives charged Haynes with Assault 2nd Degree, Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree, Menacing, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree. He was arraigned at the First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday.
