Flames Rip Through Floral Park Apartment Complex, 2 Injured

FLORAL PARK, N.Y. — A fire erupted on the top floor of a Floral Park apartment complex Wednesday afternoon, injuring two people and causing extensive damage.

Firefighters were called to the King Arms apartment complex on Plainfield Avenue around 2:15 p.m. on Wednesday after a fire broke out in a top-floor unit. According to initial reports, the blaze began when a couch inside the apartment caught fire and quickly spread throughout the room.

More than 100 firefighters rushed to the scene as the blaze tore through the upper level of the mixed-use building, which houses both residential apartments and businesses, according to officials. Flames were visible burning on the roof as fire crews battled the intense fire.

Several local fire departments responded and assisted with battling the blaze, which took nearly 45 minutes to extinguish.

Two people sustained minor injuries during the fire. One individual was transported to a nearby hospital for minor smoke inhalation, while the other was treated at the scene, fire officials said.

Plainfield Road was shut down in both directions for hours as emergency crews worked to contain the blaze and secure the area.

Fire officials are currently investigating the exact cause of the fire. No further details were immediately available.

Although the exact number of displaced residents has not been confirmed, multiple apartments were damaged.

This is a developing story.
