Burglar Shot In The Face By Off-Duty NYPD Detective In West Babylon

WEST BABYLON, NY - A would-be burglar was shot in the face after breaking into the 5th Avenue home of an off-duty New York City Police Department detective overnight on Saturday in West Babylon.

Police say the shooting happened around 3:30AM on 5th Avenue in West Babylon, New York. The man, who was trying to steal from the off-duty detectives’ home, was shot in the eye after a confrontation inside the home.

According to sources, the would-be burglar yelled “I will kill you” to the detective. The off-duty detectives’ family, including children, were inside the home at the time when the burglar entered. After the single shot was fired by the detective, it was determined the man did not have a gun on him.

The man was transported to a local area hospital and is expected to survive from the injuries he suffered.

Suffolk County Police are currently investigating the shooting.
