Arson Suspected After Pittsburgh Brush Fire Threatens Buildings

Firefighters battled a brush fire that threatened nearby buildings on Bethoven Street in Pittsburgh, PA late Monday afternoon.

Pittsburgh Fire Department responded to a report of a hillside with brush on fire in the Polish Hill section of Pittsburgh. After arriving on Bethoven Street, just west of Finland Street, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and a large area of brush on fire covering the hillside. The fire, which extended to nearly the top of the hill, threatened nearby structures.

The bulk of the fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters of Engine 6. The crew remained on the scene for nearly an hour after knocking down the remaining hot spots and ensuring that the fire did not kick back up and threaten the nearby buildings again.
