A large brush fire in Old Bethpage, New York prompted a massive response of nearly two dozen Long Island fire departments late Tuesday afternoon.

Numerous 9-1-1 calls were placed just before 1pm after heavy smoke and flames could be seen spreading from behind the Nassau County Fire Service Academy on Winding Road in Old Bethpage, New York. After responding to the scene, fire crews found a significantly sized brush fire burning north due to the moderate winds.

Assistance of nearly a dozen fire departments including Oyster Bay, Wyandanch, Dix Hills and Melville, was called to the scene of the growing and fast moving fire.

The fire was placed under control in about 3 hours by the large amount of fire crews. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.

The dry and hot weather is believed to have added to the spread of the fire.
