11 Evaluated, 1 Trapped In Long Island School Bus Collision

SYOSSET, NY - A school bus carrying seven children and two adults was involved in a crash that left another driver pinned inside their car at Michael Drive and Jericho Turnpike on Thursday morning.

The Syosset Fire Department and Nassau County Police Department responded to the intersection of Michael Drive and Jericho Turnpike at around 8:20AM on Thursday morning.

When first responders arrived on scene, they found an occupied small school bus that was involved in a crash with a Honda sedan, leaving the driver of that sedan pinned between a stuck passenger door and a large box truck blocking the driver’s side door.

Firefighters from the Syosset Fire Department were able to remove the passenger side door from the vehicle and assist the driver out of the vehicle. The driver suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to a local area hospital.

A total of 9 people, including two adults, were on the school bus at the time of the crash. There were no apparent injuries to any children or adults. All children onboard the bus were taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

The driver of the box truck involved was evaluated by EMS personnel at the scene of the crash.

It is unclear what the cause of the crash was at this time. The Nassau County Police Highway Patrol’s Motor Carrier Unit was seen doing an inspection of the school bus following the crash.
