Street Takeover Task Force Puts Brakes on BMW’s Reckless Ride: SCPD
SHIRLEY, NY – A wild getaway that could have been straight out of an action movie came to an end Sunday night when Suffolk County Police impounded a vehicle involved in recklessly fleeing from police at a car meet a night earlier.
According to the Suffolk County Police Department, It all started around 9 p.m. on March 15, when police officers assigned to the Street Takeover Task Force attempted to stop a speeding 2015 BMW M3 as it fled from police officers at a car meet in Hauppauge. The driver of the BMW turned off the vehicle's lights and hit the gas, blazing through multiple traffic signals as he tried to evade police.
On Sunday, March 16, at around 11:15 p.m., an officer spotted the flashy BMW heading north on William Floyd Parkway in Shirley. With no more escape moves left in his arsenal, the driver was pulled over and brought to a halt.
The 23-year-old driver from Mastic Beach was issued multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law citations. The BMW M3was impounded as evidence in the unlawful fleeing case from the previous night.
The Suffolk County Police Department’s Street Takeover Task Force is continuing to investigate the incident as they work to curb illegal street racing and reckless driving.
