Double Trouble: Firefighters Battling Blaze at Business Discover Second Fire at Nearby Home
BRENTWOOD, NEW YORK (PNN) - A police officer on patrol discovered smoke emanating from a business on Second Avenue, prompting a swift response from firefighters early Sunday morning. While working to contain the commercial blaze, a second fire engulfing a nearby residence was spotted by first responders just a few hundred feet away.
Just shortly after midnight on Sunday morning, the Brentwood Fire Department was requested by the Suffolk County Police to respond to a shopping center at 287 Second Avenue in Brentwood after a police officer patrolling the neighborhood encountered smoke rising from a commercial building.
As fire crews arrived on scene, firefighters made entry into the Brentwood business and observed fire in the ceiling.
First responders tending to the original commercial fire spotted flames engulfing the side of a residence only a few hundred feet away, prompting firefighters to turn their attention to the burning home. Two occupants became trapped inside the residence and were quickly rescued by firefighters.
Two firefighters were treated at the scene after battling the two blazes.
The causes of both fires are currently under investigation by officials.
