Driver Narrowly Escapes Serious Injury in Jericho Turnpike Crash
JERICHO, N.Y. – A dramatic two-car crash on Jericho Turnpike Tuesday evening left one driver with minor injuries and caused significant traffic delays.
The crash occurred just after 5:40 PM on the eastbound side of Jericho Turnpike, west of Aberdeen Road, when a yellow Lotus sports car became wedged beneath the rear of a Lexus SUV. The weight of the SUV, with its rear wheel crushing the driver's side of the Lotus, created a harrowing situation for the driver of the sports car.
“A few more inches and this probably would’ve been fatal; this guy is lucky to be alive,” said a good Samaritan who witnessed the crash and immediately rushed to help.
Despite the severity of the crash, the driver of the sports car suffered only minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The driver of the Lexus SUV was uninjured.
The collision prompted the closure of all eastbound lanes of Jericho Turnpike, leading to traffic backups that stretched past Sudbury Lane. Crews worked quickly to clear the wreckage and reopen the road.
Jericho Turnpike has since been cleared and reopened without any further delays.
